my philosophy
Design systems is a system that’s built for the builders, a service for the people. One of the best analogies that was shared with me is the ‘hardware store’ analogy.
Design systems is like a hardware store. We gather, catalog, organize all the tools and guidelines you need to build whatever you need to build, whether it’s a house, a barn or skyscraper. We are not always the experts on how to build a house, or electrical, but we have all the pieces that you need to be successful while providing you comprehensive guides on how to use the tools we have.
Design systems enables the people to build with confidence and velocity while maintaining company standardizations across timezones and domains.
my process
I am a big advocate for engineering and design collaboration, I often involve engineers in my design and ops process.
All companies work differently and it is important to have a healthy level of flexibility. My process always follows a similar sequence of defining the need, researching it both in design and engineering, building and testing and most importantly education and distribution.
Building and testing can be done in various ways. My experience flexes both in engineering testing through local and specific domains under feature flags and designers testing with domain designers. READ the blog about my process in more detail.
